The Cassini Huygens Model is situated near Saturn and Naburn Station. Constructed to 1/3 scale from various scrap / recycled materials.

Erected in March 2007 to commemorate ten years of the Cassini Huygens mission.  

Model Dimensions: Length 2.6 Metres, Diameter 1.3 Metres, Weight 150 Kg,  4 Metres above ground.    

Cassini Huygens was launched on 15th October 1997 from Cape Canaveral. It took until 30thJune 2004 to reach Saturn! As well as its mission to explore Saturn and its rings Cassini carried the European Space Agency’s Huygens probe to Titan (one of Saturn’s moons).

On 14th January 2005, Cassini released the Huygens probe to parachute through Titan's murky atmosphere. Huygens took measurements of atmospheric composition and wind speeds during its decent, along with an incredible series of images showing patterns of erosion by liquid Ethane and Methane. The probe landed on a flat desolate area with rock like lumps of water ice. It continued to send back data for 90 minutes giving some of the best images and data ever received from such a distant body
